DEALS of the Day

I have begun following a blog call Being Frugal is Fabulous and on it I found a coupon for $5.oo off of a $20.00 purchase at Walgreens. Along with that there were having a killer sale on M&Ms, Kisses and Reese Cups so the kids and I drove on over this morning. I managed to get out of Walgreens with 4 large bags of M&Ms for $1.00 and 2 bags of Kisses and 2 bags of Reese Cups for $3.00. So I managed to walk out of Walgreens with 8 bags of candy for $4.00. I was pretty pleased with that but the savings got even better when we arrived at WalMart. As I was heading to the Photo Dept. I noticed a display of Cascade Complete Action Pacs 32 count for $2.42. I was very shocked because when I went down the aisle of dishwasher soap the same Cascade Complete was priced at $7.00. I went back to the display and thanks to my camera phone took a picture of the display for proof of their signage. When I checked out the Cascade did ring up $7.00 but because of my camera phone photo they had to sell it to me for $2.42 less my $1.50 coupon. So drum roll please ......I purchased 32 Cascade Action Pacs for $.92, a savings of $6.08.

I adore saving money! It is such a thrill to see how much you can buy for such a small amount of money.

Share some of your best savings with me or do you have a great trick to saving big bucks?

Sibling Bonding

The kiddos have been getting up around 6:45 each morning and Mommy isn't ready to function then so this morning they found something to keep their selves occupied. Thankfully it wasn't something very messy.

My heart melted when I saw them together in Sawyer's crib just looking at books. These are the moments that I am extremely thankful to be a SAHM. Thanks kiddos for the sweet pictures of you two together.

Boiler UP!

Ready to leave for the game

I got to experience my first Purdue football game and tailgate party this weekend with Jason and his fam. We were able to score some awesome tickets since his cousin is on the team. Our tickets were on the 50 yard line 4 rows up! Loved the seats! Jason and I went with his aunt and uncle whose son is on the team and the kiddos stayed with Grandma and Grandpa. They met up with us later at the tailgate party!

Jason's cousin is #17 if you hadn't already figured that out

Jason's aunt and uncle have a RV that they tailgate in and the kids loved getting to act like they were driving. Sawyer was told at least 10 times to not honk the horn. Thanks Kathy and Kerry for letting us sit with you at the game and enjoy the tailgating afterwards.

How do they do it?

Monday night I went into check on Priss because almost every night she can be found sleeping on her floor. Well, tonight was the same yet different...

How do they do it? I can barely stay asleep all night when I am in my own bed!

Mechanic

Jason didn't have school today due to the wind storm we experienced yesterday - his school didn't have any power. So he decided to fix some items on his car that have been needing his attention. As he was working on the car Swee kept wanting to help and I kept trying to distract him so that he wouldn't get all dirty. Well, I didn't do a very good job since at one point Jason yells for me to hurry up and get into the garage. I was sure that the car had fallen on Swee or something else catastrophic had occurred. What I found was this...................

Swee was under the car helping Jason look for a part he had lost. He thought it was so cool to be laying under the car with his Daddy.

Isn't it wonderful to have a hero and better yet when it is your own Dad!

Did anyone order some crazy wind?

Yesterday as we were driving home from church Jason and I noticed how dark the sky was and how strong the wind was blowing. We were all ready for a crazy thunderstorm to be raging as we enjoyed the Colts game. Instead as soon as I finished Sawyer's nap routine and walked out to spend some time with Jason and Priss watching the Colts our power started flickering. It surged probably 6-8 times within an hour and then power was completely gone. Jason opted for a nap, Sawyer woke from his nap in a very naggy mood and Emerson wanted entertained since she could no longer watch her Strawberry Shortcake dvd. So I thought long and hard, and since it wasn't raining just windy the kids and I headed outdoors. The three of us sat outside watching the blustery wind blow our neighbor's tree in half, another neighbor's entire trashcan contents down the street, and then we each tried to walk into the wind. Priss and Swee sat on the front porch underneath their thick blankets watching the crazy wind blow anything, not cemented down into another zip code.

Following the wind watching (they lasted about an hour) it was time to figure out something else to do with our time. The kids wanted to see how many times they could open the refrigerator but Jason and I were worried that everything would spoil so we nixed that idea. We finally settled on a drive around our town to see if anyone had any power since we were going on 3 1/2 hours without any. Jason opened the garage door using the emergency pull lever and we were off. Some homes had lights and other's didn't. When we returned about 45 minutes later we still were without. Priss had come up with the idea of creating a tent in the living room and I suggested that we read some books by flashlight. She selected, as Jason put it, some of the longest books from our personal library. Following tent story time it was bedtime. Just as I was walking out of Sawyer's bedroom door getting ready to read Junie B. with Priss the power came back on. Jason was so relieved because he was starving!

In the midst of being without power we were able to do a lot of neat things with the kids that had we had power we more than likely wouldn't have. I do think that we need to invest in a generator since we lose our power a lot here.

Hey Diddle Diddle

Today was Nursery Rhyme day at school for Priss. She wanted dress up as the Cat and the Fiddle from Hey Diddle, Diddle. The irony of her choice was the fact that the outfit she wore today was her Halloween costume when she was 2. Yes, it still fit her!

30 months

It is so hard to believe that my Swee is 2 1/2 years old already. I still can remember bringing him home from the hospital and being amazed that I had a little boy to take care of. It is turning into such a dynamic little man. He loves his Priss, wants to be just like his Daddy, and thinks no one can snuggle him as good as Mommy. It is so cute when someone asks him how old he is and he answers two and half.

He is adorable, onry, wild, busy, loving, sweet, and one of the Bears of my Heart (one of his favorite books is entitled this)! I can't imagine a world without him in it and hope that one day he is able to experience what it is like to be a big brother since his capacity to love Priss is overwhelming to her some days.

He will forever be our Swee!

Another Candle on the Cake

Yes, I celebrated another birthday on Sunday. It was very nice. We had arrived back to Lafayette in the wee hours of the morning so Emerson's wake-up Birthday surprise was pretty early it seemed. She came running into the room yelling happy birthday carrying the presents that her and Jason had wrapped before we left home on Friday. She was so excited to give me the book she had picked out and Sawyer gave me a cd he'd picked. We went to church and then after lunch they sang Happy Birthday and helped me blow the candles out on my mint chip brownies that they had made with Grandma Pat the day before.

It was a lot of fun to have a laid back day after the previous two!

Michigan Getaway

For Jason's birthday this year I got him tickets to Michigan's season opener against the University of Utah. Erica, Matt, Coop, and Matt's parents had tickets also. Before I get ahead of myself I have to relive physically getting to the game. This was our first overnight trip without our kids, yes, Emerson is 5 and Sawyer is almost 2 1/2, and we have never left them with Grandparents so that we could have a getaway. Anyways, we decided to go up to Michigan the night before the game. We dropped the kids off which was uneventful, they both were very excited to spend the night with Grandma and Grandpa in Lafayette. Since we had gotten a late start we decided to stop for dinner at 8 that night. As we pulled into a Cracker Barrel in Kalamazoo Jason announced that something was amiss with the Saab. I thought we was joking...he wasn't! As he looked under the hood he found that the serpentine belt was off of the pulleys and he couldn't get it back on. That belt controls the power steering, the cooling mechanism in the car and many other detrimental functions of the car. Having discovered this we proceeded into the restaurant and I commenced talking with the ladies at the counter explaining our plight and asking for a phone book to call a tow truck. As I was talking one of the ladies said that was what her husband did and she would be willing to call him. She called and he brought their two young children out so that he could work on a stranger's car. Jason and I took turns holding their little girl who wasn't even one yet and supervising their little boy who was three. Their mom still had to work and their father was working on our car with a friend of his that he had called to help him. They managed the get the belt out of the engine area and removed the pulley that had seized and was cutting into our engine block. It was now about 10 at night and we realized that our hotel was not going to be reached that night so we transferred our reservation to the Fairfield what was across the parking lot from the Cracker Barrel.

Saturday morning - the day of the much anticipated game at the Big House- we began trying to locate a Saab dealership that was open on Saturdays. NO luck! We by then were waiting on Jason's dad to arrive since when he heard our plight he offered to come and help. When he arrived we still had been unable to find any dealership or store that had the part. Jason went to talk to the lady who had been so helpful the night before as I made one more attempt at finding the part. Ed called and Autozone thought they had it. They said to bring the part in and they would try to match it. He and I zoomed over to Autozone and SUCCESS! We found it along with a tool we needed and a serpentine belt that they gave to us free. The Lord was truly on our side thoughout all of this. Jason's dad sent us ahead in his car while he stayed behind in the Cracker Barrel parking lot. He did manage to get it fixed and headed home to Pat who was in Lafayette with our kiddos.

Us before the stadium was filled to almost capacity

We made it to the game with enough time to hunt for surprises to take home to the kids. The day was very hot but it was so neat to sit in a stadium that we had only seen on TV before. We finally made it home around 2 a.m. Sunday morning!
