Memory Lane

My kids were treated to this yesterday morning for breakfast. I loved these growing up. Cinnamon sugar or chocolate iced (chocolate icing from the Texas sheet cake made on birthdays). They fell in love with them. Healthy they are not but they are so good.

texas sheet cake recipe

1/2 c. oil 6 tbsp cocoa
1 c. water 1/2 c margarine
2 c. flour 2 c. sugar
1 tsp baking soda
2 eggs
1/2 buttermilk (I make mine 1/2 tbsp white vinegar and milk to make 1/2c)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla

Put oil, water, cocoa and margarine in saucepan. Heat until melted and then boil for 1 minute.
Add flour, sugar, baking soda, beat
add eggs, buttermilk, salt and vanilla; beat. Pour into an ungreased 11x17 jelly roll pan. Bake at 375 for 20 min.

Prepare the icing while the cake bakes. Icing 4 tbsp cocoa, 1/2c margarine, 6 tbsp milk 1 tsp vanilla and 3 3/4 c powdered sugar. Beat until smooth.

Allow the cake to cool some or else the icing runs off. This icing recipe is what I used with the donuts. I just halfed it and left out the vanilla.
