Jason competed in an charity basketball game tonight to benefit the fight against cancer. It was sponsored by our local YMCA and four of the surrounding schools were asked to participate. Jason readily volunteered and was excited to be on the other end of the coaching tonight. He put on his shoes and he was off. At the end of the first quarter it was a pretty poor showing of basketball play but by the end of the game Jason had turned on the juice and lead Batesville to a victory.
This was our first experience with Coaches vs. Cancer and we really enjoyed being a part of it. For the break between the two games Coach Hoeppner's widow, he was the IU football coach who passed away from brain cancer, spoke about who he was and his legacy that he left behind. He truly was a tremendous man who lived each day with the goal to make someone else's life better. If only more people in this world would take on that attitude. Her message was very well received and it was wonderful to hear of how out of adversity she has been able to be an inspiration to others.
Back to Jason playing, I really appreciated the example he set for our children and his players that when we are given an opportunity to help others we really should embrace it & not shy away from it. Thanks Babe!
